The world is suffering due to the ill effects of the global warming, so much so that there are many natural wonders which are in the state of extinction. There are few of them listed whose days of existence are numbered. These places are worth visiting at least once in the coming years before they vanish.
- Maldives Island:
This picturesque spot is endangered. Known as the lowest nation on the earth, the Maldives are barely one meter above sea level , It is a group of almost 1200 islands and most part almost 80% are lowest just 1 meter above sea level. Therefore this islands group is in danger of being engulfed by rising ocean waters in near future. - Great Barrier Reef:
This is the largest coral reef in the world situated off the western coast of Australia. Due to the natural calamities like cyclone, pollution and rise in the acidification of the ocean and heat the coral reef is facing problem. It is estimated that more than half of this reef has already vanished in the last couple of decades. The rest of the area is also about to disappear in the next decade or two.
- City of Water- Venice:
This Italian city is famous for canals lovely bridges and is the most romantic city in Italy, visited by large number of tourists every year. Unfortunately the report claim that the city is sinking five times faster than the earlier predictions. The situation is made worse by the rising sea level and the large influx of the tourists, in addition to the sinking. Indeed the place is worth visiting before sinking.
- Dead Sea:
The Dead Sea has earned the name due to its higher salinity than any other ocean on Earth. It is estimated to be 8.6 times more salty, and in the last 4 decades the Dead Sea has shrunk and become smaller in size and depth.
- Galapagos Islands:
These scenic islands are the natural wonders situated in Ecuador; there was time that this island was isolated and full of natural beauty. However now there is tremendous growth in the tourist influx that has caused the loss of almost five percent of their animal species. These islands are fast losing its place as attraction due to vehicular pollution and the growing human inhabitation.
This is yet another island, the fourth largest on Earth, is likely to disappear if prompt actions are not taken. This island is home to rich rainforest and diverse animal habitat. Poaching and burning has destroyed the ecosystem on the island to a great extent and precaution to restrict these is a must.
- Glacier National Park – Montana:
There were almost 150 glaciers in this park spread on an area of 16000 Sq. Miles in the 19th century. However the survey carried in year 2010 show only 25 active glaciers remaining. The scientists have estimated that due to the current climatic changes the glaciers shall vanish and so the wildlife surviving in the cold climate.
- Patagonian Ice Fields:
Similarly the ice fields in Chile, the Patagonian Ice fields are in the state of extinction due to the global warming, it is seen that 90% of these glaciers are melting faster than the earlier pace. It is noticed that many glaciers have vanished in last 5 years.
- Congo basin:
This is world’s 2nd largest rainforest spread over 1.3 million Sq. miles. The rainforest is instrumental in generating 40% Oxygen on Earth in addition to the food, medicinal ingredients and minerals. As per the United Nations almost 10million acres of forest is already lost due to mining, farming, and logging. And if adequate precautions are not taken the entire stretch of the rainforest is in danger of vanishing by 2040.
