The Phoenix Islands Protected area is also popularly known as PIPA and also a UNESCO World Heritage site, archipelago situated in mid-ocean about half-way between Fiji and Hawaii.
About Phoenix Islands
The marine protected area is spread around 408,250- square kilometre. The marine zone also holds around 30-submerged volcanoes. The area also holds 2-reefs which are totally submerged, 8-atolls this makes the area most pristine ecosystem on Earth.
The pristine reef and atoll have evolved over the years which are totally untouched by humans. The precious side of ecosystem is home to thousands of species of known and unknown aquatic animals. The Phoenix area is considered as world’s largest protected area with 500-species like parrotfish, surgeonfish and so in huge number. Pacific sleeper Shark, Sixgill are also caught by remote camera.
PIPA – Marine Treasure
PIPA not only holds 120-different type of corals. It is also home for 18-types of aquatic mammal species. The site is also known for key migration for turtles and flocks of seabirds. The deep tract of underwater which exceeds more than 16,400 feet is unexplored and saves another bunch of aquatic life.
How To Reach
A boat trip can be opted or plan from Fiji. But note you need to get prior and proper authorities to visit or step through boat in this area to explore the unexplored wonders.
How To Visit
No tourism and proper infrastructure are built to reach or visit this area. It is difficult to travel, and many people are not authorised to visit to spoil the pristine marine area.
