Origin of Mumbai:
Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. Seven island constitute and forms ‘Mumbai City’. The city of dreams belonged to fishing communities or colonies. Then for centuries, Portuguese took control of Mumbai formerly called Bombay. The land then subsequently went under ‘British East India Company’.
The Homby Vellard project reshaped the city reclamation project, construction of roads, railways began. The project transformed the city with needful essentialities. In 19th century, Bombay earned quality of name under education and economic development. Mumbai, has long history, from Portuguese to British, from them to local Indian Government.
Name-logy or Etymology:
A real Mumbairkar will always call this place as Mumbai and not Bombay. The name of this city was derived from Mumba-Devi (Goddess). Mumbai-Devi-means mother in Marathi Language. Marathi is official language of Maharashtra. On reaching this city, you will find Marathi, Konkani, Sindhi, Gujarati and Kannada as majority.
Not just a city with dreamers, hard-workers, fisher-folks, but also with starlets, millionaires and so. Today, Mumbai is India’s financial city. It is only city in India which generates around 6.26% of GDP. It is also known as Economic Hub. - Kala Ghoda Festival:
If you are art lover, this is place to visit. This is held on Mid of Jan-Feb, the festival is conducted annually.
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus:
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus also known as Victoria Terminus, is heart of railway network. The Gothic building gives marvellous look. The architectural structure was designed by Frederick Steven, the structure was completed in year 1887. Today, CST official name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is titled as busiest train station in Asia. The Victoria Terminus (VT) was declared as World Heritage Site in year 2009 by UNESCO.
