Mariamman Temple a temple of Hindu deity near Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. The Mariamman Temple is also situated in Bangkok, Singapore, Malaysia and so. The prime deity is Mariamman or Samayapurathal is made of clay or sand. Like other Hindu temples, ‘abhishekam‘ is not performed on the main idol, but instead on a small stone placed in front of it. According to the believers, it is believed that the Goddess has strong powers of curing illnesses. Hence, there is a ritual of buying a small replica made of steel or silver of body parts which need to be cured and these are offered near the donation box. Mavilakku is a sweet dish made of jaggery, ghee, rice flour and is offered by devotees to the Goddess. Thousand of devotee visit on Sunday, Friday and Tuesday, which are considered as holy days of Mariamman.
