The tourists must take care of certain precautions while touring the area. There are few risks involved and threats existing there. There is risk of landslides during rough weather, there are also chances of rock falls in rough sea conditions. Visitors must take proper safety precautions while travelling the coastline. The tides have altered and reshaped the beaches, there is a site giving information on the landslide and rock falls. The worst being on 6th May 2006, when 400 metre portion of the coast was washed off after the landslip, a worst disaster in 100 years. Parts of the coast around Portland can be potentially dangerous. There are many incidences of shipwrecks at the place.
